May 10, 2026 – Dermott High School students — joined by parents and coaches — packed the school gym on Thursday, May 7, for a special visit from Arkansas Razorback great and five‑time NBA Hall of Fame inductee Sidney Moncrief.
The free community event, hosted in partnership with DHS Athletic Director Coach Michael Wolfe, brought Moncrief to Chicot County to share his Coach2Coach G.R.I.T. framework, which emphasizes Growth, Intentionality, Resilience, and Tenacity. The initiative shifts traditional athletic training toward building character, strengthening relationships, and developing life skills alongside physical performance.
Moncrief urged families and coaches to create healthy, supportive environments for young athletes navigating today’s competitive sports culture. “By raising awareness on these critical human skills, our coaches and parents will create well‑rounded student athletes with the coping and human skills needed to thrive in our ever‑changing world,” he said.
Students were fully engaged throughout the session, taking part in interactive activities designed to demonstrate teamwork, focus, and communication. According to organizers, the teens “brought their A‑game,” completing guided exercises and showing strong interest in Moncrief’s message.
